LO1: MASTHEAD SAMPLE MATERIALS

MASTHEAD EXPERIMENTATION

This was my initial masthead design. I chose a font that was playful and fun, suiting my target audience. Yet it lacked a clear connection to the magazines seasonal theme and winter content whilst also being overly complex. Although the dark blue aligned with my initial colour scheme, the overall design didn’t effectively convey the wintery feel I was aiming for. Therefore, I chose to continue experimenting.

This was my second masthead design. I chose the font because it was fun and aligned with event poster conventions. Its 3D effect was eye-catching and created an industrial impression that related to Sheffield. Yet I felt the font was too busy and wouldn’t compliment my magazines design well. Therefore, I chose to continue experimenting.

This was my third masthead design. I chose the font because it was simplistic yet unique. It follows conventions of comics and it instantly recognisable as fun and family friendly. This suits my target audience. However, the colour didn't suit my winter aesthetic and to an extent, as a masthead, it wasn't eye-catching. Therefore, I chose to continue experimenting.

This was my fourth masthead design and I altered it entirely from my orginal ideas. Using a font  with intresting graphics and different colours, the masthead suits my magazine better. Changing the darker blue to a lighter blue, the magazine stronger aligns with winter conventions. The addition of a frozen effect makes the masthead visually striking and playful. These imrpovements made the masthead more cohesive and engaging.
